What makes living here worthwhile.....

Early morning sunrise at the southern most tip - Cape Aghullas
Slightly more north but still Cape Aghullas
A Rock Kestrel on an early morning hunt
On the road to Fraserburg to fetch our new pup.
The Teekloof pass on the R353 to Fraserburg.

Just to give some idea of the diversity & beauty to be found in this troubled land. For most people, once you have lived in Africa for any period of time, it will always call you back!

  1. Llew; The sun rise, in the first couple of shots, looks gruesomely like a nuclear bomb! FFS!

Never mind. The kestrel grabbed my attention! Rock Kestrel, eh? I'll have to look into that. Not a form I'm familiar with.

Anyway, never mind all that ..... How's ye pup, mate? D'ye love him to bits?

    1. Hey Ditch! Yeah, Rock Kestrel also known as a Common Kestrel (Newman's Bird's of Southern Africa) 181. The pup is getting there - 5 months old, weighs 22Kg, farts up a storm & chews ANYTHING in site (including us). He has a form of PICA which means that he has a passion for chewing (&swallowing on occasion) rocks/stones etc. Not good as it can cause a blockage which means a rather expensive op! Other than that he now has his own couch (2 seater) in our bedroom & shares our bed from 06:00 until we get up! Today he has had his first real bone - ox thigh bone - which has kept him busy for the last 2 hours! ;)

I'm good as gold, as ever, mate. Better yet for seeing ye still with us ~ we can take nothing for granted at our stage in the game. Right?
