Winter is here (almost)

Just went for my last early morning walk with shorts on! Ended up with "kneasels" big time! However, it was after a rather nice rain we had last night &, with the ground nice & damp, plenty of place for spoor. At a drift bridge near the centre of town, Duiker, Yellow Mongoose & Cape Clawless Otter mixed in with Guinea Fowl & Francolin tracks. It's one of the really nice things about this country, being so close to nature & our wildlife. Within 15Kms of where we live, some of the Big Five are around - not in cages or pens - but walking virtually free. The birds in the garden are still lively quite early in the mornings with the Cape Robin being the first up, although the Ibis start telling jokes & cracking up at about 3 am!
And then you look into the river itself - Polystyrene quick food containers, plastic packets that you have to pay for, cold drink cans etc etc. Even, at times, discarded rubbish bags although we have a fairly efficient refuse removal system. The biggest shock are the packets. Introduced some years back to stop the littering that took place with the old (tear quite easily) packets, these are now robust 'will not degenerate in your lifetime' jobs! And you have to pay for them! When will they ever learn?
Time to stop - I feel a song coming on! :)

  1. It's messing with my head a bit, Llew, to hear you're heading into Winter. It's May eve, of course. Beginning of something or other here ~ Summer, I s'pose?

Still bloody cold enough though that I like wearing my puffy jacket ~ indoors!

Rubbish? I now just about consider myself beyond being even surprised by what people will do with their rubbish.

I reached this point a year or two back. Mate of mine took me to investigate some old coal mines. High in a mountain side. Mountain miles from anywhere.

We hiked up the mountain. Scrambled about on places only the sheep should be. Located a tiny hole and crept inside it.

Shone flash lights into the belly of the very mountain itself and *Voilla!* F**king black bin bag full of rubbish!!!

After that? I've just about given up on the human races ability to dump their shit behind the very gates of paradise themselves.

Ever get to heaven, mate? Take a look. Just behind that little booth that St Peter sits in, there'll be a f**king black bin bag, spilling out used, 'disposable' babies nappies!

Anyway ..... Am I commenting, or writing ye f**kin Blog for ye?! LMFAO!

    1. Hey Ditch! Always a pleasure hearing from you - write away, bud! Yeah, we drive around with a bag in the car - anything to dump goes straight in there & then when it's full to a refuse bin. Easy as pie but the vast majority still just turf things out the window, including burning cigarette butts! I used to smoke but not in the car & certainly not when driving! How the hell do they do it? The cost to the country in veld & forest fires is astronomical but the stupid dickheads still do it. At least we do get a laugh out of our pres, old Zooma, 4th new wife - kicking past 70, more kids than he can shake a stick at, shags anything that moves & if it does'nt he kicks until it does! :D
      Have a good one!
